Disaster
Recovery Planning :
Disaster
recovery planning has become more
top of mind as a result of recent
world and local events. Terrorist
acts and medical crises such as the
SARS outbreak have been added, in
our minds, to the usual risks of fire,
theft and the effects of extreme weather
disturbances. Disasters do happen,
and critical business functions must
be protected from collapse when they
do.
BSC
offers disaster recovery planning
services. Below is an overview of
the steps taken in developing such
a plan:
Step 1: A complete audit of
the current environment is conducted,
including a review of servers, workstations,
printers, applications in use, Internet
access, email, virus protection, data
backup and the phone system. A review
of all employees requiring access
to IT systems is also conducted, detailing
their specific system needs.
Step 2: Potential disaster
scenarios are identified, ranging
from partial to total shut down of
the IT infrastructure.
Step 3: For each disaster scenario,
we outline a redundant or back up
system which would serve to keep IT
services functional.
Step 4: Quotations are prepared
detailing the cost to implement all
or some of the redundant or back up
systems.
Step 5: BSC will put in place
the redundant or back up systems as
approved.
