Set up of this service involves installation of a transreceiver (about the size of a notebook computer) and non-penetrating roof mount. An outdoor Ethernet cable is then run to an RJ45 white box demarcation point to be located in the customer’s server room.

The technology used to provide BSC’s wireless service is not the same as the inexpensive wireless technology you can purchase to set up wireless network connectivity in your office. That wireless equipment operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency band utilized by wireless consumer electronics products such as cordless phones, baby monitors, camera systems, microwave ovens, etc.

BSC’s wireless Internet service is based on point-to-point directional microwave radio frequency links. The radio equipment is deployed on rooftops ranging from 20' to 150' in the air and can only "talk" to other of our provider's radios controlled by administrators, proprietary protocols, network management systems and encryption schemes. Transmission frequencies are in the 5, 8, 18, 24 and 38 GHz ranges. Very expensive "carrier grade" transmission and receiving equipment not sold to the general public is used. Data is scrambled as it transits the network, using 48 bit encryption.
