VOICES OF FAITH EVENT, A MULTIFAITH DIALOGUE ON HOMELESSNESS, IS SET FOR SUNDAY, NOV. 29TH
The MultiFaith Alliance to End Homelessness, which represents members from multi-faith communities in Toronto, will host Voices of Faith, a multifaith dialogue on homelessness, on Sunday, November 29th from 2 to 4:00 PM at the Multi-faith Centre, University of Toronto (569 Spadina Avenue, Toronto).
Catholic Charities which is a MFATEH member was involved in the event. The event will feature several panelists. MFATEH hopes that those attending will join guest panelists in a dialogue on how our faith calls us to address issues of poverty and homelessness and the multi-faith approach to these important issues.
The event will be moderated by Rev. Sherman Hesselgrave, pastor at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto. Jack Panozzo, who manages the Social Justice and Advocacy Program of Catholic Charities and who is the MFATEH Chair, will welcome people to the event.
The panelists are: Imam Abdul Hai Patel, a MFATEH member, and immediate past Coordinator of the Canadian Council of Imams, representing the Islamic religious leadership. Currently, he is Director of Inter Faith relations. He has been serving as an Imam and community leader for 40 years in Canada. He is a founder and member of several interfaith groups and active in interfaith dialogues.
The Right Rev. Terry Finlay is a retired Anglican Archbishop of Toronto. He is special envoy for the Head of the Anglican Church of Canada regarding Residential School Settlement and Healing and Reconciliation, and continues to be concerned about situations regarding the homeless, food banks and child poverty.
Rabbi Tina Grimberg is the spiritual leader of the Congregation Darchei Noam. Before coming to Toronto in 2002, she worked as Assistant Rabbi at Beth Elohim. While in rabbinical school she facilitated workshops for interfaith couples at the Jewish Community Centre of the Upper West Side in New York.
Nancy Dinnigan-Prashad is a member of the Baha'i Community of Toronto. She writes and consults on environmental health issues and advocacy for people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
Pundit Eshwar Maharaj-Doobay is a licensed Hindu priest. He is the Hindu representative on the Toronto Regional Spiritual and Religious Care Committee for the Ontario Multifaith Council on Spiritual and Religious Care.
